Love & Marriage: DC “The Winter Swindler”

Love and Marriage: DC Season 1 Episode 9

SPOILER ALERT!!! IF YOU HAVE NOT WATCHED THIS EPISODE, LEAVE NOW AND COME BACK WHEN YOU HAVE!

When this season started, we were introduced to Winter, and her love story went awry. At first glance, it did appear that the other women were mistreating her. But as the season progressed, we could see that Winter was a bit of an instigator herself. Her rude comments regarding the ladies' husbands were uncalled for.

Watching tonight's episode showed me that Winter wasn't being entirely honest with herself. It's very understandable that when you're under much pressure from all angles of your life, you can make the mistake of causing some unnecessary chaos. But once you learn of the mess you're making, do your best to clean it up. And I must give it to Winter; she does try her best to clean up her mess. But her delivery catches everyone off guard, just like her empty apology on tonight's episode. It seemed pointless to me because she misspoke about two men that have nothing to do with her and gave a blanket apology to have something to say. I don't understand why she did not pull the ladies to the side and officially apologize. That's too much like common sense.

The words that we speak matter a great deal. We can't forget that we all are human and make mistakes. But we also must know and understand that when we go through an emotionally charged time in our lives, we sometimes need to work on ourselves before pouring into someone else. Winter created this whole fiasco by intertwining her issues with Kevin along with her meeting and interacting with the ladies. Winter was not in the right headspace coming into the series. She tried to maintain a strong front. She held onto as much positivity as she possibly could. But her situation with Kevin has her mind going in circles, and the raw emotions from this relationship, unfortunately, interfered with her budding relationship with Ashley and Erana.

The number one takeaway from this episode is to develop strong communication skills. It doesn't matter if it's just a regular friendship or a marriage. To understand where you're coming from, you must allow someone to get close enough to you to know what you're going through. With what Winter is going through, no wonder why she's having a turbulent time with making new friends. I hope she can find love and friendships that will give her the support she needs. But I strongly suggest that Winter work more on her communication and spend time healing from her situation with Kevin. That's my prayer anyway. Until the next episode…

WhyNetta

I’m WhyNetta—the woman behind Life With No Breaks.

I didn’t set out to build a platform. I set out to survive, to heal, and eventually, to understand myself more honestly.

For many years, my life revolved around being strong for everyone else—raising children, holding things together, and navigating relationships that required me to shrink in order to keep the peace. After experiencing narcissistic abuse and the unraveling that followed, I reached a point where continuing as I was simply wasn’t an option. Healing became a necessity, not a trend.

Life With No Breaks grew out of that season—not from perfection, but from reflection. It became a place where I could process real life in real time: parenting, rebuilding stability, breaking generational cycles, managing fear and faith side by side, and learning how to choose myself without guilt. Writing and speaking became tools for clarity, accountability, and growth—not just for me, but for others walking similar paths.

Today, I approach life with more intention and less urgency. I believe in growth that’s honest, faith that’s grounded, and healing that doesn’t require performance. I’m still learning, still rebuilding, and still choosing better—one decision at a time.

This space is a reflection of that journey.
