No Such Thing
Pride can be both a shield and a stumbling block. Reflecting on my journey, I’ve realized how excessive independence kept me from seeking help and fully embracing opportunities. While I valued self-reliance, it often came at the cost of personal growth and meaningful connections. Breaking free from the grip of pride has shown me the importance of vulnerability and the strength in accepting support.
What Have You Been Up To?
In this reflective post, I share my journey through the unexpected loss of my Georgia mama and the lessons I’ve learned about patience and resilience. Despite the challenges, including balancing family life and navigating a turbulent world, I’ve come to realize that life doesn’t follow a clear roadmap. We all experience moments of uncertainty, but by embracing individuality and practicing patience, we can find peace and growth. I also share my thoughts on the pandemic, personal choices, and the complexities of leadership during uncertain times.
Adulting Blah Blah
Adulting is tough, especially with the rising costs of living. From higher rent and utility bills to the increasing price of everyday items like avocados, inflation is making life feel more burdensome. In this post, I reflect on the struggles of managing expenses while staying positive and adaptable in the face of uncertainty. Despite the challenges, I share how to keep a hopeful mindset and focus on creating the life you want, even as prices continue to rise.
My Favorite Woman, Ms. Carrie L. Jacobs
In this heartfelt tribute, I remember Ms. Carrie Wynn-Jacobs, my Georgia mother, who became a guiding light in my life. From her warmth and wisdom to the unconditional love she gave me and my children, Ms. Carrie played a pivotal role in my journey as a young mother. She shared her life stories, gave advice, and filled my heart with lessons on strength and womanhood. Though we’ve lost touch over the years, her memory lives on, and I’ll always cherish the bond we shared. Her passing leaves a deep void, but her beautiful soul continues to inspire me every day.
Revelations
As DiscoverMe month comes to an end, I reflect on the revelations I’ve had about myself and the challenges in my life. From recognizing the need to show more gratitude to confronting the rising costs of living, particularly in housing, I’ve learned that even in difficult times, there is room for appreciation. Despite the increase in rent, utilities, and groceries, I’m committed to becoming a homeowner and not letting the fear of inflation control my future. This journey has reminded me that gratitude and a focused mindset are key to overcoming life’s hurdles.
Bumping Into Walls
As a Black woman with big dreams and bougie taste, I’ve often felt stuck, unable to move past invisible boundaries. I’ve watched others overcome their stagnation with the help of loved ones, but for me, motherhood and lack of focus have kept me in a constant state of frustration. Despite the challenges, I’ve realized that I don’t have to choose between being a mother and chasing my dreams. It’s about taking baby steps and finding balance. My advice: if you feel stuck, hit pause, reassess, and find new ways to push past the plateau. Don’t let life’s hurdles dim your light.
DiscoverMe Month
In 2011, I found myself in a dark place, lost and overwhelmed by chaos. I decided to take control and rediscover who I was, starting with 30 days of self-reflection. This journey became an annual tradition I call “DiscoverMe Month,” where I evaluate my growth, set new goals, and embrace both the painful and rewarding aspects of self-improvement. Though it’s a difficult process, it’s been key to my mental self-care, helping me confront my past, heal, and move forward with purpose. If you’re feeling stuck, my advice is simple: do the work to rediscover yourself and embrace the transformation.
