I Voted!
Dreary morning.
Fog hanging low.
Grey skies stretching as far as I could see.
No traffic.
No noise.
Just quiet.
The drive felt different.
Silent…
But filled with anticipation.
I parked the car.
Grabbed my umbrella.
Locked the door.
And walked in.
At least 50 people were already inside.
Sitting.
Waiting.
Music playing softly in the background—Imagine Dragons—as I sat there typing this.
And all I could think about was the last time I tried to do this.
Day two of early voting.
I showed up.
Saw the line.
Saw the crowd.
Heard people coughing.
And I left.
I’m not even going to sugarcoat it.
COVID scares me.
So yes…
I walked away.
But today?
Today is different.
Today, I came back.
Because fear may be real…
But so is responsibility.
Over the last few days, people have been showing up in record numbers.
Standing in line.
Waiting.
Participating.
And sitting here now…
I understand why.
This moment matters.
I hope every eligible, registered voter takes the time to vote.
Not out of pressure.
Not out of noise.
But out of awareness.
Because whether we realize it or not…
We have a say in what happens next.
We have the ability to shift things.
Or keep them exactly as they are.
Now me?
I’m not here to push a party.
I’m not here to turn this into something political.
I’m just here to say this:
Pay attention.
Look at what’s being presented.
Listen to what’s being said.
Do your own research.
Because understanding doesn’t come from headlines.
It comes from effort.
And I’ll be honest…
One thing this season has done for me is reignite my curiosity.
I’ve found myself researching more.
Digging deeper.
Trying to understand what’s really being said…
And what it actually means.
And maybe that’s part of the point.
To get us to think.
To question.
To engage.
So here I am.
Sitting in this waiting area.
Umbrella beside me.
Music playing softly.
And for once…
I’m not turning around.
Because no matter how I feel…
I showed up.
And sometimes…
That’s where change begins.
