The “Come Out Better” Plan
I’ve lived two different financial lives.
One filled with comfort.
The other filled with survival.
And somewhere in between…
I had to learn what money really meant.
As an adult, life hit me hard.
An injury.
Loss of income.
Delayed benefits.
And before I knew it…
My credit took the hit.
Not because I didn’t care.
But because I had to survive.
And survival doesn’t always align with financial rules.
So once I got back on my feet…
I made a decision:
I was going to rebuild.
Here’s what I learned:
Don’t panic.
Panic will cloud your judgment. Take a moment. Breathe. Think.
Develop a plan.
You may have to make tough decisions. But make them with intention.
Stay organized.
Set up autopay. Track your bills. Know your due dates.
Pay what you can—when you can.
Start small. Work your way up.
Use tools wisely.
A secured credit card can help—but only if you manage it properly.
Stay encouraged.
This process is not easy. But it’s possible.
Mistakes happen.
But they don’t define you.
What matters is what you do next.
And I chose to come out better.
