I Thought I Was Just a Cancer
I always thought I understood myself.
I’m a Cancer. July baby. Emotional, protective, intuitive… all the things they say about us. And to be honest, it fit. I didn’t question it.
But the other day, I stumbled across something that made me pause.
The Mayan zodiac.
And listen… I wasn’t even looking for it like that. It just popped up, and something in me said, pay attention.
So I did.
And what I found?
It didn’t just describe me… it explained me.
Now let me say this first—most of us only grow up knowing one system: the zodiac signs. Cancer, Leo, Virgo… you know the list.
But what I didn’t realize is that your birthdate doesn’t just connect you to one identity.
It connects you to multiple systems across time, culture, and ancestry.
And each one tells a different part of your story.
So I took my birthdate and started digging.
Here’s what came up:
• Western Zodiac: Cancer ♋
• Mayan Zodiac: Oc (Dog) 🐺
• Chinese Zodiac: Earth Goat 🐐
• Numerology: Life Path 9
Now at first, I was like… okay, that’s interesting.
But then I started reading the meanings.
And baby… when I tell you I had to sit down…
Let’s start with the Mayan zodiac, because that’s what pulled me in.
In that system, my sign is Oc (Dog).
And no, not “dog” like we think of it casually. This is deeper than that.
Oc represents:
• Loyalty
• Protection
• Justice
• Unconditional love
• Spiritual guardianship
Not just loving people… but protecting them. Standing watch. Being the one people lean on when things fall apart.
Then you add my tone—Tone 6—which is about balance, responsibility, and holding things together for others.
I paused right there.
Because that’s not just personality… that’s lived experience.
Then I looked at the others.
Cancer?
The emotional protector. The one who holds family together.
Goat?
The nurturer. The empath. The one who feels everything… even what’s not theirs.
Life Path 9?
The cycle breaker. The one who came here to end things that have been repeating for generations.
And that’s when it hit me.
This wasn’t random.
This was a pattern.
All my life, I’ve carried this feeling like…
Why am I always the one holding things together?
Why do I feel things so deeply?
Why do I see patterns other people ignore?
Why do I feel responsible for healing things I didn’t break?
And for a long time, I thought that was just… life.
But when you look at these systems side by side, they’re all saying the same thing in different languages:
You were built for this.
Not the struggle itself—but the transformation of it.
• Cancer says: Protect the home.
• Oc says: Guard the spirit.
• Goat says: Nurture the heart.
• Life Path 9 says: End the cycle.
That’s not coincidence.
That’s alignment.
And when you start to see yourself that way—not as “too emotional” or “too much” or “too responsible”—but as someone carrying a specific assignment…
Something shifts.
You stop asking, “Why is this happening to me?”
And start asking,
“What am I here to break, heal, and rebuild?”
Now listen… I’m not saying you need to run out and memorize every zodiac system out there.
But I am saying this:
There is more to you than what you were told.
More layers.
More meaning.
More purpose.
And sometimes, all it takes is one moment—one piece of information—to help you see yourself differently.
Not broken.
Not “too much.”
But intentional.
So if you’ve ever felt like you’ve been carrying more than your share…
Like you’re the one everybody leans on…
Like you’re the one trying to do things differently…
You might not be off track.
You might be exactly who you were designed to be.
And maybe—just maybe—
You’re not just surviving your story.
You’re rewriting it.
